What home gym machine would you recommend to a 270 lb 5 ft 9 in person who wants to get in shape?

I live in an apartment and have limited space, and will be moving around for the next few years so compactablity would be nice. I also have a one year old, so safety needs to be considered (no exposed stuff that little fingers can get caught in, etc.). I'm currently looking at the Gold's Gym Cross Trainer 600 Treadmill because the weight limit is over 300 lbs.

I just moved into a small apartment. My parents were bodybuilders in their previous years, so there's a full gym at their house. I dont like going to the gym, because I prefer to work out more at my leisure, but now that I've moved out of their house into my own place, I dont have my own gym at home anymore. They live 45 minutes away, so I dont want to drive to their house to use their equipment either.

Basically my question is what is the best at home gym I can purchase, for less than 0 or so, to take up to least space. I've seen so many infomercials for hundreds of minigyms, so I know they're out on the market.

I try to have an average but large build from the gym. I dont want the real thin lean muscle, but I dont want to be any Hulk either. I want the muscle to be noticeable, but there's no need for huge high resistance machines. Right now I weigh around 200 lbs and bench 300lbs 8 times free weight... to put things into perspective on what I'm looking to be able to achieve.

I'm sure everybody wonders about this at some point. So, I thought I'd ask for myself. So, if any of you know, could you please tell me whether those things really work? I ask only because I have actually thought of purchasing one when I have the necessary funds, but I haven't actually acted on it, and thus far, I have only been on a regular workout plan. I am currently expecting my second (and last child). I really want to get back into shape once the baby is born, so my husband and I are seriously considering purchasing a Boxflex home gym (he wants to use it as well). We already have purchased a good quality elliptical machine, so we want something that will work on muscle tone and definition. Plus, I hate free weights. Has anyone had good results with it? Does it only take 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week like they claim? Also, which model would you recommend?
