What home gym machine would you recommend to a 270 lb 5 ft 9 in person who wants to get in shape?

I live in an apartment and have limited space, and will be moving around for the next few years so compactablity would be nice. I also have a one year old, so safety needs to be considered (no exposed stuff that little fingers can get caught in, etc.). I'm currently looking at the Gold's Gym Cross Trainer 600 Treadmill because the weight limit is over 300 lbs.

    Please take a look at http://www.cardiogym.com it is new to the USA and is an outstanding 20 min workout that combines cardio and strength training at the same time.

    After you are finished with working out, the unit folds away in a cupboard and is 3×3′

    This doesn’t totally answer your question, but I would seriously recommend joining a gym instead of investing in a piece of equipment that is limited in what you can do with it. With a gym membership, you can vary up your exercise routine so that you don’t get bored. Many gyms have childcare services for your little one while you are using the facilities.

    Please don’t feel self conscious about working out in a gym just because you aren’t currently in great shape. Every gym I’ve ever been to had members of all different shapes and sizes. If you’re there working your butt off on a regular basis, then your fellow members will admire and respect you.

    To be honest mate. I recon the best would be a gym membership. They will have ALL the best machines as well as cardio classes and machines. They will also have professionals who can assist you on the best choice to make. And of course, the is the ‘eye candy’ ;-) Good luck

    Yes, get a good treadmill and get an adjustable dumbbell set to get some light weightlifting in and help build up some muscle. Bowflex sells some, but they are quite pricy. If you have a Target in your area, they carry adjustable dumbbell set made by reebox that is a lot more affordable.

    Get an elliptical machine! It burns calories FAST and really works your legs. It is also low impact, unlike a treadmill. I dont know if they make any that fold up and can be put away, but i promise you thats the fastest way to get in shape! Ive seen the pounds melt off people that work out on them at my gym!     Get one of those fold up tremills and some weights. Doesn’t take much to lose weight. Also start walking more and take the stairs if you can.

    Yes, a treadmill and you will need some weights as well to build muscle. You need to do both – for example, my trainer has me on rotating days. One day 15 minutes of cardio – weight training on all body parts (20 each) then aother 15 minutes of cardio. Then the next day 1 hour of cardio. You don’t have to do it all the same time or even the same way. I may do 20 minutes of one thing and 40 of another…….it doesn’t matter as long as it’s 60 minutes. Do that and drink a lot of water and cut back a little on food and you will be getting in shape in no time. Good Luck!
